Fruit Salad Dressing - Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking

Friday, January 6, 2012

I like  old vintage cook books and homemaking books and you can find them in public archives so that means I can share some of them with you. To start each Friday I will be sharing a recipe from Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking - Traditional Dutch Dishes. I found it on Project Gutenberg and you can find the whole book here if you don't want to wait for me to post the recipes.

We will start in the first section Salads.

Fruit Salad Dressing

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1½ tblsp. flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • ½ cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup whipped cream
Combine the fruit juices and stir slowly into the flour and sugar. Cook. Stirring constantly, until it thickens. (or cook in double boiler) Add the beaten eggs and cook for another minute. Let cool and fold in the whipped cream.

Freezer Cooking Made Simple is an ebook offered by HillbillyHousewife.com and is a great collection to get started in freezer cooking.
